Fat Joe, DJ Khaled, Amorphous bring Sunshine (The Light) to GetRight Radio

Fat Joe dropped a banger in January this year entitled ‘Sunshine (The Light) and it’s sure to make you want to move!

There’s a lot to unpack with this jam because we have a sample of a sample, a mash-up, Fat Joe, DJ Khaled and more to talk about so let’s get into it…

When the track starts you hear a recognizable beat that comes from Luther Vandross’s 1981 classic “Never Too Much”. We then hear Fat Joe talking, giving a little shout-out followed by the voice of multi-award-winning singer Rihanna. Now, the chorus of the song actually comes from Rihanna’s single “Kiss It Better” which was on her 2016 double platinum album Anti and goes a little something like this:

“Kiss it, kiss it better, baby
Been waitin’ on that sunshine, boy
I think I need that back
Can’t do it like that
No one else gon’ get it like that
So I argue, you yell, had to take me back Who cares when it feels like crack?
Boy you know that you always do it right”

Then towards the end of the track, we get to hear a little bit of Luther’s smooth vocals too.

So, we pretty much have the sample side covered but this entire song came about because Amorphous made a mash-up of “Kiss It Better” and “Never Too Much” in 2020 and it went crazy viral on social media. And that is what Amorphous is known for online, making these mash-ups of songs from various decades that just work. But it was the Rihanna and Vandross mash-up, which is the foundation of this song, that caught the attention of Fat Joe and DJ Khaled and before you knew it, “Sunshine (The Light)” was out in the world for everyone to listen to.
